Troubleshooting:
How
do I set SuperVoice to answer like a fax machine? .
SuperVoice allows the user to set the
software as a fax machine. From SVManager, go to SetUp , select
the option SELECT SCRIPT and use the Receive Fax script option from
the list.
Back to Top
Why
isn't SuperVoice autodetecting incoming faxes?
SuperVoice will treat all calls as a
voice call until it detects either a fax tone or a data tone.
Once it detects a fax/data tone, it switches into that mode of
communications. If there is a problem with the detection, read
the following:
Often, when you are unable to receive a
fax, you have the number of rings set to 4 or more. If this is
the case, reduce the number of rings. Each ring is approximately
6 seconds a piece. A calling fax machine/computer will wait
about 30 seconds before it 'times-out' or hangs up. After 30
seconds, it assumes there is a problem and aborts the transmission.
In the time it takes for 4 or more rings plus your message, the
calling machine has already hung up.
For fax machines that do not send a fax
tone you may also try placing 'Manually receive fax' in the no-input
selections box, in the Single-level Tree script. You may do so
by going to the SuperVoice SetUp, click on Select Script, choose the
Single-level Tree and click on Select. Look for the "No
Input" option after touch tone 9 and change it to Manually
Receive Fax. Click on Done to save your changes, use the
Advanced script and click on Done until you get out of the SuperVoice
Set Up.

What
should I do if I can't send/receive a fax?
Most of the fax communication errors
which you are likely to encounter are transient -- due to temporary or
occasional phenomena such as a noisy or interrupted telephone
connection. In many instances, it is sufficient to simply resend the
fax; the transmission is likely to be successful on the second, or
perhaps third, attempt.
If you are sending a fax to a remote
fax machine, you may get a fax communication error if that machine
runs out of paper.
Wait a few minutes for the person at the other end to put a new roll
of paper in the fax machine, then redial.
If you keep on having trouble
sending a fax, reducing the rate of transmission from HIGHEST to 9600
will solve the problem. You may do so by using SET UP, select
the option COMMUNICATIONS and look for FAX RECV RATE and FAX SEND RATE
- Also check the SEND/RECV OPTION on the same screen - They should be
set to SEND/RECV.
If your faxes are being cut off you may
have call waiting on that line. Disable call waiting by putting
*70 in the prefix of the send fax dialogue box.

How
to personalize a fax cover sheet logo?
You can design and create a library of
Header and Footer logos using your favorite Windows application or
other Attachment List documents. This example will use Windows
Paintbrush to demonstrate the procedure for creating cover sheet
logos; however, any application can be substituted for Paintbrush.
If you wish to use a portion of a scanned image or received fax as a
cover sheet logo, skip to Saving Cover Sheet Logos.
- Start the Paintbrush program from the
Accessories group.
- Create a Paintbrush file that contains
a Header section (e.g., company name, company logo, etc.) and a
Footer section (e.g., company address, phone number, fax number,
etc.). Be careful not to make these logo sections too tall,
because it will limit the amount of space for the cover sheet
message.
- Select the Printer SetUp option from
the File menu of Paintbrush, then highlight PIC-Printer on FAX as
the current or default Windows printer.
- Select the Print option from the File
menu of Paintbrush and a dialog box indicating that printing is in
progress will appear. At this time the PIC-Printer is
converting the Paintbrush file into a fax image.
- When the Send Fax dialog box appears,
click on the Wait button and the converted document will be added
to Attachment List.
- Click File
- Click Viewer
- Now you will see your document. Using
the mouse click the top left area of the fax image (holding down
the mouse button) drag to the right and down a couple of inches
and release the mouse button.
NOTE: The selected area should only be a couple inches high.
- Click 'Edit'
- Click 'Save Selection As'
- Give the file a name
- In the 'Save As type' field slect the
'logo Files(*.lgo)
- When you to send a fax for the cover
sheet select 'text with logo'
For the header select the header you created.

How
do I edit a fax when received?
A fax is treated as an image and cannot
be edited in a word processing program. For editing, the fax
must be exported to an image processing program such as Paintbrush.
Once the modifications are made, the fax may be imported back into
SuperVoice and saved.
To import to Paintbrush, select the
specific file and view it in the Folder Viewer. Click on Folder
and select Export. Save the file as a .PCX file (For example: if
the name of the file is apple, save it as apple.pcx).
Go to Paintbrush, go to the c:\SVPro\Data
directory, and open apple.pcx. Edit the file to your needs, then
save it in Paintbrush. Back in the SuperVoice Fax Viewer,
select Import, and import apple.pcx into the viewer (in the c:\SVPro\Data
directory). Then save it as apple.001 (which is the fax format).

How
do I fax from a Windows Application?
In order to fax from a Windows'
application, you first need to select the PIC-Win95 fax printer or
PICFAX. (The manner in which you choose the PIC-fax print driver
may vary, depending on the application you are using). After
choosing this driver, print as you normally would. Your document
will be converted into a faxable format. The "Send
Fax" dialog box will then appear. Enter the fax number and
send.
If you are unable to choose the PIC-fax
printer driver, your software may not be installed properly.

(Actually, the first page would be
FODSTUFF.001, the second page FODSTUFF.002 and so on, but
SuperVoice understands that they're all supposed to be grouped
together.)
- Go to the SuperVoice Manager. Go
to the SetUp dialog box and select Fax on Demand. In the

How
to receive a fax from the fax machines which does not send a fax tone?
In order to receive a fax, the calling
fax machine must send a fax tone. Not all fax machines send a fax
tone; some fax machines depend on the receiving end to send back a fax
tone. In this event, from the SV Manager go to SetUp, click on
Advanced Script then click on the select icon and place Manual Receive
in the no-input selection's box. This will make SuperVoice behave like
a real fax machine. "No-input" tells SV what to do in the
event a caller does not send any input. If the caller is a fax
machine, that does not send a fax tone, obviously there will be no
input sent. If you have Manual Receive in your no-input option, SV
will output a fax tone and capture the calling fax machine.

What
if I have many versions of SuperVoice running?
If you have many versions of SuperVoice
running you will need to edit the c:\Windows\fax.ini file to activate
an older version of the software. Please go to the Windows File
Manager and look for the Windows directory. In the Windows directory
double click on a file called Fax.ini. Make sure the fax.ini displays
the right path name.
For example
for SuperFax the fax.ini should read:
[FAX]
NAME=SuperFax
TITLE=SuperFax
PATH=C:\SuperFax\
for SuperVoice 2.X the fax.ini would read:
[FAX]
NAME=SUPERVOC
TITLE=SuperVoice
PATH=C:\Supervoc\
For SuperVoice Pro the fax.ini would read:
[FAX]
NAME=SVPRO
TITLE=SuperVoice Pro
PATH=C:\SVPRO\
For SuperVoice SDK the fax.ini would read:
[FAX]
NAME=SVSDK
TITLE=SuperVoice SDK
PATH=C:\SVSDK\
NOTE: Please note that the path command
line refers to the default directory the software is usually installed
in. If the software is installed under a different directory then the
path should read the new directory.

Step2. Search for the [Templates] section and add the additional cover
page; for example if you want to create a cover page with the name
Apple then in the [Template] section you should have:
[TEMPLATES]
TEMPLATE1=COVER1,Business
TEMPLATE6=COVER,Apple
Step3. Then go to the [COVER1] section, copy the entire [COVER1]
section paste it right under it and rename it [COVER6] for example:
[COVER1]

Step4. Save the Supervoc.ini file, exit the file and restart
SuperVoice. From SuperVoice Manager select FILE then VIEWER, click on
FOLDER then click on OPEN, select cover1.001 and click on OK, and OK.
Step5. Click on FOLDER , select EXPORT CURRENT PAGE and type a
filename. For example, apple.pcx then minimize the Folder Viewer.
Step6. Start the Paintbrush program from the Accessories group. Click
on FILE then OPEN. Make sure you point to the Supervoc/Data
subdirectory and select LIST FILES OF TYPE as .PCX (bottom). You will
then select apple.pcx
Step7. Using Paintbrush make all necessary changes to the cover page.
Be sure not to interfere with the data input areas (DATE, TO , FROM
areas should stay as is). When done with all changes save the file
(keep the same name) and minimize paintbrush.
Step8. Maximize the Folder Viewer and click on FOLDER, then IMPORT,
select apple.pcx then click on OK. The modified file will come up in
the viewer.
Step9. Save the file as COVER2.001 . You may now use this cover sheet
to send your faxes.
NOTES: Your cover page should not be more than a page long. If
additional files are created (cover2.002, cover2.003, etc...) you will
need to delete the additional files using File Manager and modify the
cover2.001 in Paintbrush to stay within 1 page!

Why
I always got noise line error when receiving a fax?
The faxes you are receiving may be bad
due to a lot of noise on the line. A few people have experienced this
problem with great severity, most not at all with your modem type, but
it is intermittent and currently not repeatable in our lab. We have
been advised that certain chips have the potential for this problem at
14.4 fax connecting.
We recommend that you lower your baud rate (the send and receive rate)
to 9600.

When
I'm trying to send a fax I'm getting the message 'No Dialtone' First
of all make sure that there is a dialtone on the line. In order to do this,
take the cable out of the modem, plug it in a telephone and lift the
handset. If you hear a dialtone it means that the modem doesn't hear the
dialtone because it is most likely to low in volume. If there is no dialtone
then you need to check your cables or telephone connection.
In most cases when the modem reports 'No
Dialtone' while you established that in fact there is a dialtone you can
tell the modem to ignore the dialtone.
You do this as follows:
- Go to Setup
- Select 'System - Communications'
- Add X1 to the Init String. You need to
make sure that you put this after the AT&F
For example:
AT&F&C1 you need to change to: AT&FX1&C1
AT&F1&C1 you need to change to: AT&F1X1&C1

Cannot
get fax signal from number called
Possible causes:
- The number dialed has a data modem
connected to it, so there was no fax tone.
- The number dialed did not answer. The
remote fax machine or PC may be inactive or turned off.
- A person picked up the phone at the
receiving end.
- If your modem is connected to a phone
switching system it is possible that you will need to dial an extra
digit to reach an outside line. You can insert commas into the number
(after the outside-call digit) to create a pause, allowing time for an
outside dial tone. In the following example, a 9 sends the call to an
outside line, while the commas give your telephone system time to
establish an outside connection: 9,,5551212. The actual time (and the
number of commas) may be different for your system.
